The adult moth of this species has brown forewings with a red marks outlined in black. The wingspan is about 4 cms.

It may be confused with the related species Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta, but distinguishing them is easy:

  • Proteuxoa sanguinipuncta has black spots partly surrounded with red.
  • Proteuxoa rubripuncta has red spots partly surrounded with black.

    The species has been found in:

  • New South Wales,
  • Victoria,
  • Tasmania, and
  • South Australia.
