The adult moths of this subfamily have most characteristics in common with other subfamilies of NOCTUIDAE, and so are difficult to identify. The caterpillars are however are different, as those in AMPHIPYRINAE have secondary setae on the head. Sadly the caterpillars of many of these species have not been described well enough to discern this, so that more superficial characters have been used to classify them.
