Abraham Jacobus Wendel was a Leiden-based chromo-lithographer, specialising in generating the lithographic plates for each of the colours from a coloured drawing. The plates when printed each with its coloured ink, would reproduce the original drawing. Many of Wendel's lithographs are now considered desirable and collectable.

For Buckler's publication: The larvć of the British butterflies and moths, Wendel's chromo-lithographs were printed by Trap, also in Leiden.
