This family is often treated as a subfamily of PTEROPHORIDAE, but here, following Nielsen et al we treat it as a separate family.

Three species are known world-wide in this family:

  • Agdistopis griveaudi ( from Madagascar )
  • Agdistopis sinhala ( from Asia )

    and the only named Australian species of MACROPIRATIDAE :

  • Agdistopis halieutica
