This Caterpillar lives in a conical silken shelter covered in small bits of leaf of its foodplants.
The caterpillar does this at intervals between which it moved to differently coloured vegetation, resulting in coloured bands along the case.

Only the head and thorax have a hard chitinous shell. They have a complex pattern of dark brown and off-white. The caterpillar normally keeps its vulnerable unarmoured abdomen inside its case.
The caterpillar is thought to be a Lepidoscia species.
The caterpillar of Conoeca guildingi builds a similar case, but the head and thorax are dark brown with different pale markings to this species.
