This Caterpillar is a worldwide pest. It eats

  • Sesame ( Sesamum indicum, PEDALIACEAE ).

    These caterpillars make shelter by rolling up young leaves and webbing them together with silk. They feed inside their shelter.

    The adult of this species is yellow with darker veins in the wings, and reddish splotches. The moth has a wingspan of about 2 cms.

    The illustrated specimen was caught in Sydney. The species also occurs in :

  • Costa Rica,
  • Hong Kong,
  • India,
  • Iran,
  • Japan, and
  • United Kingdom, as well as
  • New South Wales in Australia.
