The adult moth of this species has brown wings with a variable pattern of vague dark markings often including an elongated dark triangle along the costa.

The species occurs in:

  • New South Wales,
  • Australian Capital Territory,
  • Victoria,
  • Tasmania,
  • South Australia, and
  • Western Australia.

    This species is the nominal species in the Constrictana Group, elevated by some taxonomists to genus Constrictana, which includes the species formerly named

  • Capua catharia,
  • Capua ephedra,
  • Capua ischnomorpha,
  • Capua leptospila,
  • Capua montanana,
  • Capua notograpta,
  • Capua oxygona,
  • Tortrix constrictana, and
  • Tortrix plagiomochla.
