The family XYLORYCTIDAE was considered to be a subfamily of OECOPHORIDAE by Nielsen et al., but here following the later book A Guide to Australian Moths by Zborowski & Edwards we have listed it as a separate family.
Many of the caterpillars of this family bore into timber, hence their common name.
