This caterpillar is grey with black speckles. The first abdominal segment is black and swollen. The first set of prolegs are reduced. The caterpillar has been found feeding on various plants in SAPINDACEAE, including

Ceylon Oak ( Schleichera oleosa ),

Maple ( Acer species ),

Soapnuts ( Sapindus species ),

Lepisanthes species, and

Nephelium species.

The adult moths have variable colours, usually including light and dark grey or brown, often with a broad pale band across the middle of each forewing, delineated by a double curved line. The moths have a wingspan up to 8 cms.

The moths feed on nectar in various flowers, and also the juice of damaged ripe fruit.

They are inhabitants of south-east Asia and the south Pacific, including:

Borneo,

Hong Kong,

New Guinea, and

Taiwan,

and in Australia, including:

Queensland, and

New South Wales.
