These insects are not true Moths, but are in the family HYDROPSYCHIDAE.

The larvae live in streams, each living in a 'retreat' attached to a rock, and covered in pebbles, sand, and detritus. The larva constructs a net attached to the retreat to catch passing food items.

The adults emerge from the water in groups, facilitating mating. The moths are grey with variable dark markings. The wingspan is about 2 cms.

The insects are found i

  • New South Wales,
  • Victoria, and
  • Tasmania
