The adult moth of this species has brown forewings each sometimes crossed by one or more wide irregular black bands, which sometimes degenerate into dark patches. The hindwings are plain pale brown. The wingspan is about 1.7 cms. The labial palps are long and held straight out in front of the head.

The species has been found over much of the eastern hemisphere, including:

  • Finland,
  • Hong Kong,
  • Italy,
  • New Zealand,

    as well as in Australia in

  • Western Australia.
