These are found in damp soil throughout Australia. They feed on decaying vegetable debris, and are quite harmles to man and his constructions. They are related to Sand Hoppers, found feeding on dead seaweed on the seashore.
They vary in length from 2 to 4 mm. The specimens here were found in Pennant Hills, Sydney, in August 1999.
