The adult moths have speckled grey forewings. The wingspan is about 1.5 cms.

This species Bactra optanias occurs in

  • Papua,
    and may occur in:
  • New Zealand,
    although this may be a different species,

    but Bactra optanias has been recorded in Australia in:

  • Western Australia,
  • Norfolk Island,
  • Queensland,
  • New South Wales, and
  • Victoria.
